Prescription infrastructure for routing and automation
How it works

How prescription infrastructure works on Photon

  1. Prescription orders are created by an authenticated prescriber in the Photon App, Embed, API, or EHR integration
  2. Each order is held in escrow before routing, enabling consumer engagement and partner automation
  3. Orders are routed to the pharmacy of choice
  4. Status updates are delivered back through webhooks

INFRASTRUCTURE

On Photon, prescriptions are stateful objects that live on shared infrastructure, not point-to-point messages.

That means the prescription can be created, held, routed, updated, and observed as it moves through the workflow. The EHR, patient engagement layer, routing logic, pharmacy destination, and fulfillment status all operate against the same state.

The infrastructure is also designed to be aware of pricing, benefits, and inventory, so routing and automation can reflect the real conditions around the order instead of static handoffs.

For partners, this creates a more reliable foundation for automation, monitoring, and exception handling. Transfers, out-of-stock medications, and other exceptions can be managed as state changes in the workflow instead of opaque failures across a disconnected system.
