Prescribe is Photon’s prescribing UI. It runs the prescriber’s whole workflow, and it’s the only place a prescription gets signed.

How prescribing works

Every prescription follows the same steps, however you integrate:
1

Intake patient

Find the patient, or add them. Photon matches what you pass to an existing record before it creates a new one.
2

Draft prescription

Each drug becomes a draft with its sig and quantity. Photon screens it against the patient’s allergies, medications and conditions, and checks it against their benefits, as it’s written.
3

Sign prescription

The prescriber reviews the draft and signs it. Repeat for each prescription on the order.
4

Send order

The signed prescriptions go out together as one order. Choosing a pharmacy now is optional.
5

Shop order

Compare prices for the whole order across pharmacies. By default, Photon texts the patient a link to shop.
6

Fulfill order

Route the order to the chosen pharmacy. Nothing is routed until a pharmacy is chosen.
Anyone can draft, but only a signed-in prescriber can sign. See Architecture for the records behind these steps.

Who drafts

The prescriber always signs and sends in Prescribe. What changes between integrations is who does the drafting: The more your product drafts, the less the prescriber types. See Choose an integration.

Where the prescriber works

App

Photon’s own web app. Sign in and prescribe, or follow a deep link from your product, an email or a text.

Embed

Inside your product, with React components, an iframe or the JavaScript client.
Both run the same workflow on the same records, so a draft started in one opens in the other. Start with the app to see the workflow, then embed it when you’re ready.
