# Prescribe app

> Sign in to Photon's web app and write your first prescription.

The Prescribe app is Photon's own web app for prescribers. Sign in and prescribe, with no integration. Later, a [deep link](/docs/prescribe/app/deep-links) from your product can open it on the right patient or order.

  </Card>
</CardGroup>

⚠️ The sandbox, `rx.neutron.health`, isn't live yet.

Prescribers sign in with their Photon account, which needs an [invite](#invites) with the **Prescriber** role. Someone in more than one organization picks one when they sign in.

## Patients, prescriptions and orders

Everything in the app is one of three records:

| Record | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Patient** | Who you're prescribing for: their details, allergies, medications and conditions. |
| **Prescription** | One drug for one patient, with its directions and quantity. It's a draft until a prescriber signs it. A signed prescription can't change: to change it, write a new one. |
| **Order** | One or more signed prescriptions for one patient, sent together. |

An order holds the work: you start one, add the patient and prescriptions, and send it. See [Architecture](/docs/architecture) for how the records fit together.

## Write a prescription

1. Go to [rx.new](https://rx.new), or [rx.neutron.health](https://rx.neutron.health) in the sandbox. A new order opens.
2. Find the patient, or add them. Give a mobile phone number: Photon texts the patient when you send.
3. Under **Medication**, type the drug and pick the right product.
4. Fill in **Directions (sig)**, **Quantity**, **Unit**, **Days supply** and **Refills**. Check **Dispense as written** if the pharmacy mustn't substitute. Some values arrive filled in. Check them before you sign.
5. Review screening. Photon checks the drug against the patient's allergies, medications and conditions as you type, and shows any alert on the card as **Warning** or **Blocked**.
6. Click **Sign**. Use **Add prescription** to add more drugs to the same order, and sign each one.
7. Click **Send prescription to patient**.

Drafts save as you go, so you can leave and come back. The app offers to **Continue a draft** when the patient has one.

## Sent to the patient

By default, the app sends the order to the patient, not to a pharmacy. Photon texts them a link where they compare pharmacies by price, hours, delivery and stock, and pick one. Nothing is routed until they choose, and if a pharmacy can't fill it, they can switch.

After you send, the order shows **The patient will choose a pharmacy**. If the order already names a pharmacy, for example one your backend set, the button reads **Send to** that pharmacy instead.

## Invites

Everyone who uses the app needs an invite to your organization. An admin invites them by email and gives them roles: **Prescriber** to prescribe, plus **Admin** or **Developer** for setup. A prescriber's invite also needs their NPI, phone, fax and address. See [Team](/docs/dashboard#team).

For now, manage invites in the dashboard: [Neutron](https://app.neutron.health/settings/team) · [Photon](https://app.photon.health/settings/team).

## Templates

A template is a saved prescription with the drug, directions and quantity filled in. Admins build them from treatments in your organization's catalog. A [deep link](/docs/prescribe/app/deep-links) or your backend can start a prescription from a template (`templateId`), so the prescriber only reviews and signs. See [Templates](/docs/dashboard#templates).

For now, create and edit templates in the dashboard: [Neutron](https://app.neutron.health/settings/templates) · [Photon](https://app.photon.health/settings/templates).

## The address bar is the link

The URL always points at the work on screen. Copy it to hand the same order to a colleague, and it opens just as it was. Once the order exists, the link opens that order rather than starting a new one.

| Path | Opens |
| - | - |
| `/order` | A new order. `/` goes here. |
| `/patient` | Find or add a patient, and edit their details |
| `/prescription` | One prescription on its own |

To open the app on a record from your product, an email or a text, build a [deep link](/docs/prescribe/app/deep-links).
